I need a hand on setting up my PSS. I shoot mainly semi auto rifles and I am new to bolt action rifles. I have had the rifle over a year and really don't know where to start. I need suggestions on the following:

Scope mount
Log book for shots
Break in procedures(not to familar with this rifle)

Price is an issue I can't get in it more than 500 bucks.

Any other suggestions?

I'm looking at getting a bolt action rifle soon, I'd like the answer to some of these questions too.

Well, here is what I did.

Rifle: Remington 700PSS 300WM

Scope: Leupold Vari X III Long Range 3.5x10x40 M3 Illuminated

Mount: Badger with 20 MOA tilt

Rings: Badger 30mm

Bipod: Harris LM-S with KMW pod-loc

Pelican case, Otis Sniper Cleaning Kit, and other accesories.

Still looking for a sling and a book as I am new to this type of shooting myself.

For the book I think I will get the NSW log book.
Or the T.R.G.T Book www.snipercountry.com/TRGT_300WinMagDataBook.html

A good site to check out is www.snipercountry.com/sniper.htm
They have good review on a lot of products.

edited because I forgot some things

As for scope, I absolutely recommend the Bausch and LOMB elite 4200. It is beautiful on my pss.

Sling? Whatever.
Log book, goto georgia precision, I think they got em.

Cleaning, Its a high grade rifle. Go to compasslake.com and read his barrel break in procedures, this will tell you how to clean too.

The scope and leupold rings should be under 400.

You might want to consider the VS instead of the PSS. Check out www.snipercountry.com/700pss.htm
A lot of people agree that there isn't a big advantage of the PSS over VS except extra $$$

Can't go wrong with a leupold, but with a 500 dollar cap you wont get the top end models. I recently saw some pretty good weaver scopes for around 300 bucks. plus the mounts, a harris bipod, and a good drag bag or case and you will be rolling. personally I would just get a good leupold and save for the rest of the stuff.

I picked up the VS and love it. I put a Harris Swivel Bipod on it, and topped it with a Leupold Vari-X III Long Range Tactical 4.5-14x50 scope. Leupold MK4 base and Badger Ordnance Rings.
