Just picked one up off Gunbroker
Ran it through the dishwasher to remove the cosmoline.

It looks good other that the scrapes, scratches, and nicks.

I was planning on sanding it down through progressivly finer grits until it looked good, but was still grippy.

Anybody have any advice?

I used bondo body filler to fill the gouges and scratches and painted it with spray on bed liner to give it a textured finish. I figure that it can be beat on now and I won't have to worry since it can be touched up when it starts to look crappy.

If your going to leave it green, bead blast it with 120 oxide to even out the sheen/finish, then rub a coat of Lube into it to bring back the green color (will still need to repaint the metal black).
