A buddy gave me a press.  When you lower the handle to raise the ram, there is a point that the ram will peak and then start to come back down some more.  Then, as you raise the handle, the ram goes up, then comes all the way back down.  I'm used to an RCBS, is this supposed to be this way?  It's kind of annoying.

*Update* As it turns out, it is not a T-7 press.  It is a model 25 which was the precursor to the T-7.  It looks very much alike, and it is in great shape.  Anyway, the camover for that press is perfectly normal.  Thanks for the comments.

Probably so; some presses have that "cam over" action built into it.  The Redding T-7 is a nice, nice press.

My T-7 doesn't cam over. Or, maybe it does, and it's so slight I don't notice it.

My T-7 cams over slightly. Then again my Rock Chucker does as well with a more pronounced feel to the camming action than the T-7. I just got my T-7 as well and it's a really nice press. Probably will wind up getting at least one additional turret for it.

Ya could send it my way I'd evaluate it for you for say 6-10 years

Do me a favor and tell us about the T-7 and how it compares to the Rock Chucker.  Why have the T-7?  Why have the Rock Chucker, instead?  Have you been able to compare the runout produced using one versus the other (do you have the gages to do this)?

The Hornady LnL Classic is the same way, the ram comes back down about 1/16" after it reaches the top at the end of the stroke, I like the built in cam-over and sizing is very precise.

This press has nearly an inch of camover.

Just checked my T-7 and there is zero camover.

I got the T-7 mainly to load pistol rounds and .223. I can set the dies up and leave them in the turret. Saves a little bit of setup time and is basically convenient. I just got it a week ago and haven't compared any runout issues compared to the Rock Chucker. I don't have the tools at present to do it with and I think for what I am using it for it doesn't really matter. I'll continue to use the Rock Chucker or Big Boss press to load precision rounds. The T-7 drops the primers into a tube via a hole in the ram which is a nice added feature. The front of the press is also wide open making for lots of room to move along pretty quickly when doing several hundred rounds at once, rather than sticking them in from the side like on the Rock Chucker. When I first started to load I was about 15 and used an old Lyman Spartan turret press. It was flat out wore out and would not seat any 2 bullets the same length. I replaced it with the Rock Chucker and used it exclusively for the last 11 years. Hope that helps to answer your question. I'll be able to give a better opinion on the T-7 once I use it a little more.

So, you are saying, on your press, as you lower the handle the ram goes to top dead center and then drops down an inch as you continue to lower the handle. ???

If this is the case, call Redding, there shouldn't be that much camover.  I'm guessing the linkage is bent somehow.
