I want to try low-mounting a dot sight on a 16" v-match carbine that has a fixed carry handle. Can anybody recommend a reasonably inexpensive gooseneck mount and a source for same?

Get the Aimpoint Goosneck Mount (about $40). Using a dremel tool you can cut a second slot in it to mount whatever red-dot you want. Complete directoins are in the How-To Projects section at:

That's the BEC unit, available most of the time from those mentioned above. I'll also throw in CDNN.
