Did Polytech use the same thread as the US made M1a? I was looking at getting a Krieger barrel for it if possible.

Why are you wanting to re-barrel it?  It has one of the few chrome lined barrels that is standard eqpt on the M14 clones.

LARRYG brings up an excellent point.
ChiCom's come with excellent standard profile chrome lined barrels.

It is my opinion that the Chinese had a crate of all TRW M14 rifles to
copy from because they did a hell of a job reverse engineering them.

I was thinking about rebarreling because i wanted to build a copy of Steve Troy's personal MCS/Krieger M1a setup. I also have a Springfield M1a NM. Would the Springfield be a better one to use for this?

I think yes if the new Krieger barrel is not chrome lined.

Reverse engineered all the way down to the barrell set screw in the receiver threads. Wait, USGI didn't have that. Hmmmph.
Well, if the ChiCommies did it, it must be a product improvement that was needed,I'm sure.

That set screw is a mystery

The set screw in the barrel ring of the Chinese M14 receivers did not exist in the 1965 (nineteen sixty-five) production receivers.  It was a 1980s design change.

sigh,

I really wish Springfield Armory would get off their lazy asses and read these threads.  People want chrome lined bbls!  They would make a killing on sales if they would just chrome line!
