I have a friend who has a SBR for sale. I have a NFA trust, and would like to purchase it. How does the process work for a private party sale? I've never purchased a NFA weapon from a private party & am curious on how it works. Thanks

It's a form 4 transfer if you are both in the same state.
You should be able to sit down and fill it out together without too much trouble.
He retains possession until it is approved. He will receive the approved form as he is the seller.
You go pick it up from him after the stamp is in hand.
The details are up to you two with regard to money changing hands.

how does purchasing a used class 3 item work in regards to the Engraving?  Do you "strike out" the original engraving?

The original engraving is still valid as they were the manufacturer of the firearm.  The next person is merely doing a transfer, not creating a new weapon.

so in that case does it need additional engraving with the new owners name/trust?
