The price could be slightly high or slightly low depending on which Colt Carbine.

Give us a serial number prefix (CC, GC, SP, etc)so that we may tell you what model it is, and then we can ascertain it's value based on the information.

If it's a Colt 6001 Sp1 carbine( non Fwd assist upper, A1 sights, 1/12 lwt weight barrel) average price is $1350(85%)-1650(95%+).

If it s a Colt 6420 ( 1/7 lwt weight barrel, Fwd assist, A1 sights) average price is $1650-1900. Some of the 6420s don't have the case deflector and the 1st 100 or so had the Vinyl Acetate Covered Aluminum stock(1985/85). These sell for several $100 more.

it does have a fwd assist and the A1 sights.  it does not have the deflection thing.  i didnt get a good look at the markings except the fact that it was COLT AR15 A1

If it's got a 16 inch barrel, which I assume it has, AND a bayonet lug, you can assume it's preban---but don't bother buyng a bayonet.  The barrel is too long for the bayo to fit properly.  The forward ring will slide back to the barrel, leaving about 2+ inches of barrel and flash suppressor sticking out, over the blade. The bayo will then just rattle around on the barrel putting lots of nice nicks in the finish under the ring.  Thr only reason Colt left the bayo lug on the preban carbines was that they were too damn lazy to grind it off

When you go back might as well get the model number, give us a condition %, does the box come with the gun and any other accessories and then this learned group can more correctly estimate the correct price.
