I am new to the reloading game and I am getting my setup straightened out to reload a bunch of 5.56 brass I have saved up. I want to buy powder and have been reading of all of the powders that people use for 5.56. Eventually I want to load 300 BLK. Is there a powder that would work well for 5.56 and 300 BLK? I see H110 is suggested for 300 BLK. Will this work for 5.56 or is there another alternative?

Thanks,
Tim

I have a 300/221, and the only powder I've been able to get it to reliably cycle with subs is AA1680- -the powder AAC recommends.  If you're going with a BLACKOUT, you'll want it to shoot subs, with a suppressor (which is loads of fun BTW   ) otherwise its round thats just as noisy as every other round out there and low powered besides.

Buying new powders to try is half the fun of reloading!

Two totally different cartridges needing totally different powders.  The expansion ratio of the Blackout gives it more in common with pistol cartridges than rifle and as such you will notice that most of the recommended powders for the Blackout are pistol powders.  The .223 is a more conventional rifle load and works best with medium rifle powders.  There is essentially no overlap in the two if you want either to work anywhere near optimally (i.e. cycle a weapon).
