Hey guys, a friend of a friend is selling an M1 garand and i'm interested in it. i haven't gone over to look at it yet as i would like to get your opinions on it. i know pretty much nothing about them (never handled one) but have been interested in acquiring one for some time now. can you tell what to look for when i go to check out the rifle? any help from you guys would be well appreciated. also i guess his asking price is $700. is that a good price?

That is like asking if $2,000 is a good price for a car. You will need to get the details first.

Is it a M1 from CMP? If so, he is not much of a friend as you can purchase these yourself for about $500.
Get some more info... - Ask if this is from CMP - Ask who is the manufacturer - Ask when it was made - Post pictures. |

$700 is pretty steep unless the rifle is something special.

Like raf said, unless there is something unique or collectible about that particular rifle, you might as well get one from the CMP. You can get a rack grade shipped for $425, plus about $25 to join an affiliated organization. I bought a service grade for $525 shipped about 4 years ago and got a 100% correct SA. Looked like it had never been shot.
