Anybody know how a poly choke is attached to a barrel? Silver soldered? Any easy way to remove it so it can be used again?

Backstory........I recently shortened a mossy 500 down to 18.5 inches and the poly choke was on the barrel originally. I've been thinking about a single shot (see thread in this section) and the addition of the poly choke to a shortened barrel on the single shot would give LOTS of versatility. I figure it to be siver soldered and heating up the junk end of barrel should be easy......

In for suggestions.....

Take a torch to it.  If you're feeling froggy put some heat paste on the inside of the poly choke.

Use gloves.  Don't forget it's hot.

Had a friend heat a bolt to get it out. Bolt hits the ground he proceeds to pick it up bare handed. Hilarity ensued....

Most poly chokes I have seen are threaded like a choke so a little heat and it should unscrew. Some threaded to the outside of the barrel and some had the barrel turned down and were soldered on. Need to know what you are working with to be sure.

OK I got the poly off. Thanks for your replies!

The barrel was threaded, and so was the poly, but the poly threads are gone! It's almost smooth inside the poly, but I can see where threads used to be. I just heated it up and started to twist and it came off. I didn't unscrew it, just twisted back and forth. Anyway, it cleaned up really good and I will now look for the second part of my project.....a break action single shot 12 guage!

$10 bucks says the choke wasn't threaded.

It was probably just sleeved into whatever threads were in the barrel and held together with copious amounts of goop.

I'm not taking that bet because I would most assuridly lose!

I think it was soldered though....there were signs of it on the inside of the barrel when it seperated.
