Hi folks,

I'm getting married soon, and I'd like to get some nice knives for my best man & groomsmen.  Here are the constraints:

(1) The blade should be less than 3", or we can't have them at work.

(2)  I'd like to get a fancier version for the best man.

(3)  The best man is a fool for anything made out of titanium, so some model that can be had with or without titanium scales would be great.

(4)  The best man is a lefty and doesn't like liner locks, so some other locking system would be needed unless you can get a left-handed liner lock model.

(5)  It should be an efficient design (not too flashy or scary, something you could carry everyday).

Thanks in advance!

Ben

How about Chris Reeve Folders?  They meet all of your criteria, but are expensive.  I believe all Reeves can be had in left or right and you can select the grade of "fancy" you are looking for.  They are not too flashy or scary, but make a great every day carry folder.

I have a chive and love it, but it's a liner lock so no good for the lefty best man.

The one I'm leaning toward right now is the spyderco salsa.  It's a liner lock, but on the spine and maybe easier to use left handed without cutting your thumb off.  Can be had in titanium or aluminum:

Blade Steel ATS-34
Blade Thickness 1/8" 3mm
Clip Heavy-duty wire clip
Diam. Blade Hole 9/16" 14mm
Edge Type PlainEdge
Handle Material Titanium
Length Blade 2 7/16" 63mm
Length Closed 3 1/2"
Length Cutting Edge 2 3/16" 56mm
Length Overall 5 15/16" 152mm
Weight 3.5oz 99g

Chive.  The liner lock is not insurmountable for a lefty.

The CRKT?  K.I.S.S       engraved is what I gave, but I didn't know about the ultra-tactical-neo-psudo-virtual-switchblade Chive.   $30 at Walmart.  The lefty will love it.

The best man has stated that he doesn't like liners.  He's an engineer; he's picky.

I decided to go with the SOG Flash 1 Aluminum Handle TiN coated partially serrated blade:

The blade is only 2.5", the lock is usable from either side, it's assisted-opening, and it comes in different grades.  Perfect!

Looks like a great choice.  I gave out Spyderco Delica SS's at our wedding, engraved with the persons name on the handle.  My wife didn't  like the idea ahead of time, but she had to admit that everyone loved them.
