My Grandfather gave me this gun back in 2007, he bought it from a local police officer back in the early 80s and I used to go deer hunting with it when I was a kid. I've always enjoyed shooting the rifle when I was a child and was ecstatic when my Grandfather gave it to me, to repay him he always wanted a Taurus Judge so I bought him one a few months later. So here's what I've got, I believe that it's an all original IHC but let's see what you guys think. I don't have a T&E gauge but it's a great shooter.

From the limited pictures it appears to be an all correct International Harvester.
Nice rifle.

Back in the 80s there were a couple of places that offered these IHC rifles to LEOs only and required letterhead request.  If I remember right they came back from central America. Most will have a CAI very small import stamp on the barrel behind the front sight.

That gun, if all IHC, will bring big bucks.  Sell it and you can buy at least 3 Springfileld made guns that will shoot just as well.  Or buy one plus a load of ammo.

How could I tell and how much would you guess that it would bring?

Trust me I would never, I sold a rifle about 5 years ago (needed money for a wedding ring, got divorced 3 years later) that he gave me back in the late 80s and I'll never make that mistake again.

+1 on not selling the rifle,

however,

go buy Duff's 'blue' book, on post war rifles,
then do a detailed strip and do your own data sheet, then you will know what you have,

this site is good, as is jouster.com, for Garand info, (check the M1/M14 section in the armory here)

CMP has a good forum for garands as well,

Go on Gunbroker and see what they have been sold for.  I sold a non matching IHC for $1200.  I bet yours would bring $1500.00.  get 2 service grade Springfields, one for you and grandpa, and still have mioney for a couple cases of ammo.

You are lucky, Ghetto.

I've been wanting an IHC Garand for awhile to go with the IHC 450 Farmall that was my Dad's & is now mine.

IHCs should command the highest premium as I beleive they are the most rare.

After talking to my Grandfather and getting his permission I put it up on gunbroker to see what kind of money that it'll fetch. I put a high reserve on it just to see what it'll bid up to but I'm not looking to sell it but if the reserve is met I will since I have permission fro my grandfather.

Yuo shouldn't sell that for any price. You will regret doing so later on when your grandfather is no longer around, I know that I did...

Yea mate you should hold on to that. You will regret it one day trust me.

Looking at the photos on Gun broker, your IHC appears to be an Import. Do you know if it is an imported rifle??

It had that El Monte mark on it and I've had ppl email me saying that it's an import.

Looks like it was imported by Federal Ordnance out of South El Monte, CA. It probably came from the Philippines. There is a great article in Small Arms Review on the life and times of Bob Brenner, owner of Fed Ord. The article goes into great detail on the deal he made with them to get the guns imported. Its in the November 2009 issue.

If I were you I would get it parked and clean the stock up.  It is worn with a beat stock and almost made it to 1400.  Should be able to get it refinished for $150

Honestly, the last thing that I would do is refinish it.
