Looking to add an IR laser to an MP5. Will most likely move the IR laser to my thermal night hunting rig when needed. Which do you prefer and why?
Perst 1: -slightly larger -looks like it includes a separate pressure pad. Is this correct? -if it has a pressure pad it could go at 3oclock with pressure pad at 9 or 12 oclock -Adjustable beam but says it’s only one wattage level -$150 if you can find it in stock TOR-MINI: -adjustable IR wattage -smaller -$270 -could fit at 9oclock - red circle in photo ![]() |

No IR illum?
TOR so you can reduce bloom. |

OTOH, you can almost buy 2 PERST for the price of one TOR. |

View Quote @TNVC The only issue I see with the TOR is the lack of a lock-out feature in case you accidentally bump it. How would the TOR compare to the Streamlight VIR 2? |

I don’t know for sure but I’m guessing the Perst weighs WAY more than the TOR

Fuckn Tor Bois

View Quote Yep, I have a TOR and I wish it had a lockout of some sort. I'd like to stick it on the bottom of a rimfire pistol I carry in the woods a lot and leave it there, but I holster that pistol and I imagine that it would be getting turned on and off a lot in the holster probably. |

Gotta enjoy the little things.

Not had an issue like that. ![]() |

Being only water "resistant" makes the TOR a no-go for me.
|
|
Who gives a damn?

I think a illuminator is always a must have. X400v-IRC or for a really small footprint maybe the XC2-IRC?
|

|
Been happy with my TOR.

I don’t like making plans for the day. Because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around in the courtroom.

I got a TOR for use on a pistol.
I liked it. It was easy to hit in the on button, press trigger, and then switch the laser back off. |

As to the OP, I don't have a PERST-1 (I do have 2 PERST-2s) but I do have a TOR. I got mine for a PS90 and would go with the TOR for an MP5 as it seems like a pistol caliber carbine mounted IR laser should be lightweight and have a small footprint first and a powerful beam second. Not like you're likely to be taking 300yd shots with that thing and need the extra power of the Ruskie unit. |

I don’t. Literally the only benefit of the 1/3N is the size. It’s not that much of an advantage. Even my garage door opener moved to a better battery standard. Edit. I ain’t trying to convince anyone about what power source to use. OP asked A vs B, and I bought the Perst because I didn’t like the 1/3N power source. |

All good Brother, never thought any different with your reply. I don't own a Perst nor know much about them so thanks for the education. ![]() |

Just not on some of mine. It's no big deal. |
