Thinking of picking up one of these as my first muzzle loader.

Also planning on using it if I get involved in reenacting eventually.

How are these?

Pedersoli' are generaly thought of as good quality stuff.

I'd hold off on a Pedersoli until you find a unit. Ask those guys. Some require that all import markings are removed and will have insights into reproductions. Second, some reenactors insist on two rifles with one used for shooting and the other for reenactment. Why two? You will never carry a mistakenly loaded musket to a reenactment.

If you're looking to reenact, you might consider a defarbed gun from Lodgewood, Pedersoli or otherwise.

The idea is a piece of minie-ball skirt can get stuck in the bottom of the bore and become dislodged during blank firing because a lot of reenactors never clean their rifles properly.

That being said, most Civil War reenactors are a bit on the older side, and many are fudds.
