I used to have a coharie sp89 clone that I dreamed of sbr'ing to the pdw. Had to sell it back in the day and been lusting over one. Now I have NFA stuff and I'm older so the wait is not so bad.

Now there are many clones I see.

And friends are telling me to look into cz or sig mpx.

I'm a child of the 70's/80's (movies all had mp5's)
And got to handle mp5's in the Marines security forces in the 90's on my first enlistment so they are dear to my heart.

Recently I had the opportunity to shoot and fondle a Zenith Z-5P SBR and loved it. It wasn't the best PCC I've shot, but it's not the worst either and definitely made my short list of future SBR's. Like you I was a child of the 80's and the MP5 is very iconic and I really just want to add one to my collection.

Get the mp5. You won't be satisfied with the others. My stamp came back a few weeks ago from an April submission.Attachment Attached File

A PCC for me is largely about having fun.  It sounds like a mp5 will really scratch that itch for you so that is probably the one you should go with.  If you are going to compete or something with it the MPX is probably the clear winner.

The cool factor is big in PCC, and whatever people think is coolest is subjective.  For function though, as a sub gun I am of the opinion that the MPX is probably unsurpassed.  The great ergo's of an ar, drop free mags, last round bolt hold open, softest recoil for quick follow up shots etc.  The whole package.

I have both the MPX and the MP5K PDW. The MPX is the hands down winner for the reasons stated above. Plus, you can add a binary trigger for that full auto experience.

This.

I bought an MKE Z-5RS last year and SBR'd it immediately.

It is amazing!

I've had a PS90 for a while, and this year picked up a CZ Scorpion and a Kriss Vector (both waiting to be SBR'd).  The others are fun to shoot, but the MKE is still top dog.

Went thru the same process, I ended up getting CZ which I really like.  Then MKE put all their models on sale over the summer, so I picked up the  K version and I love them both.  Then black friday came and I picked up a MPX with the folding brace, should be here tomorrow!  Sorry, I dont think I am really helping here.

What's the budget?

How much you are going to put into the project will spell out the right choice.

If I shop around hope to to a mp5 pdw clone.

Thanks everyone for great replies. I think I'll do my research and start shopping around for best clone/ $

Any to stay away from?

Stay away from SW (Special Weapons), Bobcat, Cohaire, especially the earlier cast guns, unless you get a killer deal and are prepared to troubleshoot problems. Mine is an old SW5 with their latest gen stamped receiver from 2006. After a lot of HK parts swapping it runs 100%, but there are better options today. I would get a Zenith/MKE unless you might run a registered MG sear. If you run a sear, the Omega is a US option, but there is a Todd Bailey connection regarding some of the parts. They are reported to be well-made. I haven't seen one personally. RCM makes many of their parts now.

I recommend the MKE. If you can afford a registered sear or housing, you can afford to pay a smith to modify it later.

I had a coharie than ran well a bobcat that was a turd. I see some sw5's for sale but not sure what a bargain is if the MKE is not much more.

I've had two Coharies, and a SW94. All three ran like Swiss watches. So there ARE good ones out there. However, those are probably not the ones for sale. :)
I think if I were doing it again I'd go for the Omega series from Atlantic Firearms.
I have several SBR'd 9mm's, and STILL am debating the CZ Scorpion and Sig MPX. Why? Not sure. Because they're there?

Ok how much would I hate an hk mp5 .22?

I had the gsg and hated it because it was so cheaply made. A few people told me this one is better.

Main purpose is a range toy plus I have NFA .22 cans already (nothing 9mm)

I'm trying to keep my spending down this year since I bought a kubota tractor and some other big toys. If shooting cans with a .22 mp5 is close I'll be ok.
