I got my brand new PTR-91 from Atlantic Firearms about two weeks ago and I finally got a chance to post about it.  I chose to buy a PTR-91 because of the good feedback I read on its reliability and workmanship.  For those of you that don't know, JLD Enterprises makes the PTR-91 with a combination of genuine HK parts and US made ones, manufactured on HK-certified equipment to German military specifications, for 922(r) compliance.

Though they aren’t anything great, here are some targets shot from a bench without a sandbag. Ammo used was Wolf. I used it because it was cheap and good for practice. I think I have to adjust the sights a little, but I won’t know for sure until I take it out again.

The purchase process from Atlantic Firearms went smoothly.  When emailing Atlantic Firearms, responses were prompt. Also, when I called to place a reserve, the person on the phone was very courteous.  The rifle arrived the day after it shipped.  The rifle itself feels sturdy and the barrel itself looks nice and heavy.  When shooting it, I felt the kick was very manageable. The charging handle was a kind of tough to pull back, but I think that will even out with use.  Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and I plan on customizing it in the future. The first in line is a wooden stock and then probably a wide forend.

Welcome! Yes, very nice weapon - The JLD I have looked exactly like yours - The photo below is the current configuration. Optics helped tighten the groups also. Enjoy, I sure enjoy mine

There's quite a few PTR owners in PA .
During the 80s the HK-91 was really popular here as well.

My most recommended add on ,is a trigger job.

Bill Springfield and Williams Trigger Specialties
IMHO are 2 of the best in the country for HK style weapons.

My most recommended add on is a paddle mag release. RTDS did one for my PTR and its on its way back to me now. I had Williams do a trigger job on my Sringfield Armory SAR3 many years ago and I highly recomend him.

The  biggest difference is price, after that there are enough US parts in it to make it compliant.  Aesthetically, I can't really find any huge differences between the clone and real thing. I think what a person wants to buy depends more on their personal preferences. I bought the PTR-91 because it was cheaper than an HK 91 and it is more reliable than a CETME.

My question is this, is the barrel fluted, in other words, does it damage the brass so there is not reloading potential?

One thing that I did learn is the receiver is stamped, not milled.

fluted barrels have NOTHING to do with the damage done to the brass during extraction....not to my knowledge at least

The fluted barrel doesn't do a thing. When the brass is ejected, it hits the side of the port and is left with a ding in the side. I think I have a casing around somewhere if I find it, I may put up a picture.
