Im the guy that you're talking about. I bought a case full of the federal tru-ball slugs and a case of federal flight control because they both group really well out of my gun, they just dont group in the same place
If i had just a lick of common sense i would have realized that i should have checked to make sure that the buck and slugs both grouped tightly and in the SAME PLACE before buying a large quantity of both. WIth a little more preplannin i probablly would have ended up with a case of federal flight control 00 buck and a case of remington slugs or brenekke or something.
The slugs are actually about 6 inches lower than the damn buckshot. I have been able to holdover pretty effectively and when i burn up all the slugs i will try to find a different brand that shoots a little higher with the same level of accuracy. The slugs arent even reduced recoil so im not sure why theres such a point of impact change.
Its definately NOT the shotgun, i know that for certain. The smoothbore gun itself wouldnt be able throw slugs low and then throw buck high, theres no plausible reason for that to happen. Its the ammo having differing velocities thats causing that. I think it just comes down to finding two different rounds that match.
You definately cant do anything to the gun itself to make it throw slugs in one direction and buck in the other. If you figured that out you would either be defying the laws of physics or some kind of mad shotgun scientist and either way you would get rich quick and be able to pay somebody else to worry about it.
Basically theres still work to do but thats on my end not yours. My department just let us start using slugs a month or two ago so i havent really perfected the setup yet.
