Reading a few threads on here has me itching for a SAN 553 badly.

Does anyone know how many of these were imported, and if there are any plans to import more?

Not sure how many were imported. My guess is about 200-300.

The current SAN importer, JDI does have plans to import more 553s and other cool items (can you say 751 SAPR pistol). They are about to bring in 553R 7.62x39 pistols with 12" barrels, railed uppers, and green furniture. The price is supposed to be $2200-2300. They can also get just about any SAN part you could want.

There were at least 500 SAN 553's imported. I work for the distributor that has sold most of them in the US. We have a few of the flattops left and just a couple with the rotary diopter sights. They are almost gone.

Do you have any links or be able to point me in the right direction for more information on this?

Is that 500 of the Sig Sauer imports or does this number also include those imported by M&M/Armati?

Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger on one. I ordered a diopter model from Ratworx. It's supposed to be at my dealer on Monday. I'll post some pictures once I get it.

All I sold were the Sig imports. There were around 480 imported by Sig.

I really wanted one of those 552s that were available not to long ago. Also have been looking at the 553s since they showed up here but I would really want a steel lower for it. I would need a steel lower on it.

Steel lowers can be had for $600 if you're patient.

JDI said that they should be getting in a good many steel lowers, but he couldn't give me a price on them yet. I may pick up a black one to go with my 553, but my wallet is already hurting....

The 552s are pretty cool. I love the factory markings...."SG 552-2 SP COMMANDO". Buy the 553 and pick up a steel lower.

I'm just starting the SIG 552/553 SBR journey.

What are the differences between the different variants, and which one makes the best basis for an SBR? What's the smart way to build?

Thanks!

Buy a 553 from RatWorx, a site sponsor, and buy the stock from John Doe Investigations.

That's exactly what I did. I'm waiting on JDI to get some stocks in and for my Form 1 to clear.
