Why don't you at least wait until the products and actual pricing is available before declaring that they are too expensive... instead of relying on internet speculation/gossip/fear mongering about the price.

I'm not the one speculating..........my friend has seen the projected prices and stated that if they are correct he cannot afford one...........my advice was to wait and see as well, but he thinks they might be out of his range

I would say either a saiga in .223 that you can do the pistol grip conversion on or on of the keltec folding rifles in .223.

If you've got an AR already and the others aren't what your looking to add on for price it should be a little cheaper to add on a piston upper depending on what you'd want.
Just like any other piston rifle I've used or own there really easy to maintain as the Scar and Masada should be. My POF runs great on Tetra grease since it doesn't run the same as a DI which floods the receiver with carbon and heat. The others seem like great choices, but you should save "some" money going the piston AR route if you've got an Ar already and you'll still have all those great AR options and parts at your disposal. The POF's and LWRC's both use lots of standard AR parts and only a few are proprietary. On my POF the ones that are like the BCG will last a long time and the gas cylinder is very robust and chromelined for long wear. The op rod and piston you can buy spares of and anything else is standard. Hell for a couple hundred bucks you can have a whole spare upper and lower stripped receiver too if you'd want.   POF |

No, he has an older AR-15 from a purchase in the past, he just wants another 5.56 rifle to go with it, but money is very tight for him........anything above a grand is beyond what he can afford

I don't know exactly what your friends criteria are (other than under $1000) but the least expensive option would probably be a Saiga in .223 or .308 for around $300 or so.
He could also pick up an inexpensive AK variant for <$500 if he's looking for a plinker or blasting rifle. It's certainly different from an AR. Off the shelf Saiga below.  Other Saiga  or

Actually one of the best firearms for less than a grand that can be had is a PTR91 F 18 inch with fixed stock from CDNN for $899.00.
It's a bare bones PTR91 but still as close to a real HK91 as you can get new these days and the overall quality to any HK91 I've had experience with is just as good or better to me. He'll have great room to expand if he want by adding on rail forearms, optics and mounts, Smith Vortex's and a few nice stock options as he goes in time when his budget allows. G3 mags are still cheap and he can have himself a great quality version of a battlerifle that is used by many countries still. Thanks for the replies.............I will pass this info on...........1k is his max, but for that I see alot of options that he could explore............of course my advice has been to wait and see what the prices are, and save if he has to.

My guess is that you will be able to pick up a used Masada for under $1K when the B version (or the Metzada) comes out.

Why not build another AR-15 in a different configuration thatn he already has. You could build one for well under a grand and have money left over for nice optics, Or wait around for a used Masada in 6 months. He would be happier in the long run with one of those options I think. Just my $.02

I paid $440 OTD for my SU-16C. Other than getting very hot, very fast with sustained or rapid fire I have no complaints with it. It isn't an AR, of course, but it can be a budget-conscious alternative (or just a fun/different alternative for someone who already has plenty of ARs ), it uses standard AR mags, and the folder (while admittedly ugly IMO) can stow some places where an AR just won't...

A Daewoo is a better choice than an $800 Galil for two reasons...
1. It takes AR mags...since you already have an AR this will save money. 2. It wasn't made by Century. |
