On the ammo go with XM193 or Q3131a. A good place to buy this ammo is at ammoman.
Welcome to the ar15 club.

1) Clean as per instructed in your manual.
2) This site will give you all the info you'll ever need about your rifle.
3)There are plenty of good deals at the Equipment Exchange

4)The Maryland AR15 Shooter's Site is another good site for information.

5)Chuck Santose's Improves Battlesight Zero is the Zeroing method of choic here

Did I leave out anything?

Clean it and give it a good dose of CLP before you take it to the range. For plinking, I shoot mostly PMC, but mine likes remmy umc, win q3131, and american eagle just as well.

You can pick up 300-round South African battle packs from a number of sources. I've shot quite a bit of it and have had no problems. It's also relatively inexpensive.

U.S. production (Lake City) ammo is also good.

If you decide to try Wolf or another variety of steel-cased, lacquer-coated ammo, get a single box first and see how it works in your gun. My Bushmaster hates the stuff-- will not feed reliably. I've got several hundred rounds gathering dust in my ammo cabinet.
