Im am looking for a new gun, I am looking at a WASR-10, but I want to look at everything else first, I already ruled out an AR because i need more OOMPH in a rifle.

What does FAL stand for?
What caliber does it come in?
Where can I get one?
How much do they cost?
How accurate are they?
How much of a difference between the 7.62x39mm and the FAL cartridge.

It stands for Fusil Automatique Leger. The FNFAL was designed and originally built in Belgium. Belgium is a bilingual country with french being one of the languages. Fusil Automatique Leger is french for Rifle, Automatic, Light

F A Ls where originally chambered in 7.62NATO. Some commercial variants are chambered in 7mm08.

There are a multitude of vendors that sell F A L rifles. For the best value I would suggest that you haunt the marketplace forum at FALFILES.COM and watch the EE forum here.

How much do they cost?

Between $500 and $3500

How accurate are they?

Most F A Ls will easily produce 2 to 3 inch groups at 100 yards with quality surplus ammo. It is not too difficult to tweak an F A L into a 2 MOA rifle. Tighter than this and you will spend far more money that it is worth.

How much of a difference between the 7.62x39mm and the FAL cartridge.

A 7.62X39 cartridge is ballistically close to a 30 30 Winchester. The 7.62NATO is ballistically identical to the military 30-06

Check out DSarms FALs. DSA makes probably the best FALs out there, but they are expensive. I love mine!

WARNING WARNING. visting the FALFILES can cause uncontroled expansion in the numbers of evil black rifles in which you own. This may or may not be linked to a shrinking effect on ones wallet. at least thats what happening to me. IMO FAL's are more addictive than AR's, case in point i now have 4 differant FAL projects in the works, and only 1 AR.

FALs are fine dam rifles.  Even though they are/were used by 90 countries, they are hard to find used.  At least in New Hampshire they are.

I can assure you there is plenty of OOMPF with an AR, but I think I understand that to mean you wanta bigger calibur. FAL's are not tack drivers, they are battle rifles.

I just cleaned it for the first time last night, that was EASY!

Much easier to clean than an AR but an allen wrench is needed to remove the handguard.
