Anyone know where or if I can find any new USGI contract M14 mags and how much they cost?

I assume you mean "new" as in recently manufactured as opposed to NIW "old" mags made before the '94 ban. I think CMI makes recent made ones but I don't know where to order them.

Edited to add: Check-Mate Industries, Inc.

www.quanticoarms.com is supposed to be getting some of the LEO Restricted 1996 production Check Mate Industries M14 magazines soon.  I'd like to get one to see if they are as bad as their reputation makes them out to be.

Springfield Armory has been making these the whole time.  The military and police have been buying them.  So when is Springfield going to start forking them over to us?  Their website still lists "Magazine, .308 20 Round (Legal under crime bill)", and asks $95.

They must realize that they would make, like, money or something if they started pushing the restricted mags on the market now.

On a side note, I can't wait until the DOD starts selling off some used mags like they used to.  Good times.

SA stockpiled assinine amounts of GI mags years ago and have been refinishing them ever since. I don't think the military would buy anything from the current commercial Springfield Armory.

Springfield Armory, Inc. does sell ten and twenty round magazines to the military.  However, their magazines are USGI.  Yes, even the ten rounders.

Ammoman is good people.  The consensus over at www.battlerifles.com is that the M14 magazines sold by Ammoman are Taiwanese magazines.  Taiwanese magazines are excellent.  Taiwan made about 1,000,000 M14 rifles from 1968 into the late 1980s to go along with the magazines.

The replacment USGI M9 (Berreta 92F) mags made by Checkmate are crap. The ones I "borrowed" I tossed, and they are the #1 complaint item on the M9 from Iraq and Afganistan. Dont know if thats an indicator of the quality of their M14 mags, but I would not buy any myself  because of that.

So if the magazines are now surplus, where are the rifles?  We need some USGI-quality PARTS!

Just got a reply from Springfield Armory:

Question:  Now that the crime bill is gone, will you be selling newly manufactured 20 round M14 magazines?  If so, when, and what is the price range they will be selling for?

Answer:  We will be selling newly manufactured 20 round mags (MA5023) for $49.95 ea. plus shipping.  Thank you for your interest in our Springfield Inc. products.

There you go.  Still seems a little steep to me.

Being one of those Iraq veterans, I can attest to this....

However, checkmate has addressed this issue, and the new mags are top shelf...well, second from the top, but they are still much higher quality than they were. You can tell the new checkmate mags from the old ones by their finish. The old ones are park'd, the new ones have a moly coat.

Here is a pic from another board...
The middle mag is the "old" M9 and the top and bottom are the new ones.

Not USGI but ammoman.com has T57 mags, M14 mags made on US machinery...These mags are getting great reviews on battlerifles.com.  Ammoman has them shipped 10 for 129.  I received mine last thursday but havent had a chance to try them out.  9 look brand new, one has some finish wear.

Do these have a stamped out locking tab or a welded on one?

The locking tab is welded on.  I compared a USGI mag to the T57 and except for the finish it is difficult to tell the difference.

They are nice mags, Eric is an awesome, awesome guy, they function flawless, they are really good mags.

But clearly destiguishable from GI. Made to USGI spec, welded and all, but not USGI.

SA is out of their freakin minds on $49 mags. I bet they will be crap.
