Just ordered a new SF 323LMG shotgun forend last night from Brightflashlights!  I'm stoked that I can now finally put a SF forend on my Mossberg 590, without modifying the bayonet lug.  I'll post pics when I get it installed.  That is all!

Can't wait to see the pics.  I'm going to order one as well for my new 590 A1.

It has arrived!  Damn is this thing nice - bright and lightweight!  Easy installation too.  I give it two thumbs up.

Why does your 590 look so long?

It's the 20" barrel and has a Knoxx SpecOps stock.  9 shot capacity.

I know it's a 20', but the angle just makes it look so long for some reason.

He's got the action open in the pic.

Not to hijack your post, but how is the spec-ops stock treating you? Was pondering one myself.

Wouldn't it make more sense to close the action so we can see how the light fits around the bayonet lug?

I know, but for some silly reason it just looks longer than a 20'

Sorry, I thought of that after I took the picture.

I'll get a "closed action" picture up tonight when I get home from work.  I can tell you there is a ton of clearance from the end of the light to the bayonet lug.

I'm really happy with the SpecOps stock.  No problems at all with it - except for a few instances of cheek slap from having my face too close to the rear sight.  I can shoot all day and not have my shoulder get all beat up from the recoil.

Looks good.  I got my Surefire forend from Brightflashlights on Monday, but my 590A1 hasn't hit my FFL yet so no pics yet.

I'm curious how much did it cost? Surefire won't put the price on their website. I might buy the conversion head, but would like to know the price first.

Shoot an email to Brightflashlights and he'll give you a price quote.  Surefire doesn't allow pricing below MAP.  Surefire does list the MSRP for the 323LMG at $400.

Surefire is so bad on pricing. I know a lot of dealers that hate them for that. Surefire is nearly in violation of the Magnusson-Moss Act for not allowing bellow MSRP sales.

New pictures that hopefully show things in better perspective and show the distance from the light to the bayonet lug:

does the bayo lug leave a shadow in the light?

It doesn't interfere with the hot spot of the light beam.  You can see a slight shadow in the upper part of the beam that fades out from the main spot.  Not distracting at all...at least in my opinion.

Any one know the weight difference between the new and the old models?

Per SF's website, comparing the new 2 cell LED (623LMG) version to the old 2 cell incandescent version (623LFG), the weight difference is 0.2 lbs - the new one is lighter.  I can't compare the single cell version that I have (323LMG) because there was no old single cell version.

The head is definitely MUCH smaller than the old models.

Surefire FM57 beam cover will fit I believe.  These are pricey though - $75 MSRP.

Thanks.  I'm sure I can find it cheaper. I always put a flip-up cover on my weaponlights.

Mine will go on a 18.5" 590A1 ghost ring sight.

What's the proper procedure and tools needed to remove & replace a factory Mossberg forend?

Thx

The SF forends come with a tool that can be used to take off the factory forend, but using this requires the gun to be completely disassembled.  What I did was take off the magazine end cap, pulled the barrel off and then using a channel locks (covered in electrical tape to prevent scratches) removed the forend nut without taking the gun apart.  Once the nut was off, slid off the factory forend, dropped in the SF unit, put the nut back on, tightened with the channel locks, put the barrel back on, and replaced the end cap.  It was much simpler than I was expecting.

Thanks. I'm assuming turn right (clockwise) to tighten and turn left (counter-clock) to come off?
