I just picked up a new SA standard M1A with the USGI stock & pepperpot MB they stopped making a couple years ago. It has a really nice stock with figure and a chrome HRA USGI barrel. I got it for a really good price ($1125) considering the others I've seen w/o a chrome USGI barrel are alot higher here with the recent price increases. The finish is alot better than the current M1As I've seen. I hope it has more USGI parts beyond the easily seen SA ones. Even the trigger pull is pretty good for a standard.

I plan on swapping out the reg handguard for a SOCOM scout hg & mount I recently picked up & the MB for a standard FH. I'll keep it fairly stock, but internally put chrome silicon springs & Sadlak recoil spring guide & gas piston in. Plus I'm going to install a XS 24/7 front night site & ghost ring aperature.

My questions are:

#1 - Does anyone make a fake auto selector switch so I can fill in the selector cut hole on the stock?
#2 - Is it worth bedding the stock since I just want to use it as a general use gun, since I already have a NM?

I consider myself lucky I found this one.

Your replies are appreciated.

Check these out

Shoot it a lot and see if you think you need it. I bedded both of mine myself, but the best improvement I saw was from getting the gas cylinder unitized.

fake selector switch fills in the cutaway nicely. Only thing left to do is the bedding.

Zaitev,

Mine looks identical to your's except I have the pepperpot MB (& no selector switch of course). The stocks & finish are exactly the same.

Azjeffs,

Thanks for the link. I kind of like the "paddle" vs. button. Which one was more commonly used in the M14?

I ordered a dummy selector kit from Sparrowhawk last week. Plus I already have a Fred's woodland camo USGI syhthetic stock.

I've got my modification parts on the way.
