Just got it out of Brady delay quarantine ----   No real "plans for it yet except to see if i can aquire/reload a small stash of  7.62 and start shootin'

Has a SA scope mount -- i can see the irons under it just fine -- i have read some of the reviews good, bad and indifferent on this mount, but since the rifle tapped such a big hole in the wallet, i'm gonna leave it alone for now
-- first mission is to get aquainted with the irons, --- then i'll mount a Leupold 4-12x i have lying around somewhere and see if i can maximize my groups/patterns with the ammo i have on hand
      -  found a leather Garand type sling on Amazon and ordered it up because they look boss , but i will likely shoot a lot prone off a shorty Harris (need to procure a stud for that too) - so the sling is largely there for ceremonial purposes

Few things beat a wood M1A and yours is no different OP. Treat it well and you'll have a lot of fun with it.

Have you seen the posts about picking up USGI parts for it?

I never knew you were a member here Tony. I've been watching/referring to your videos for a long time after stumbling across one of them.

Great job on them and thank you for taking the time to do them

Yes -- from what i gather from some of the other posts --  keep a GI extractor and spring wrapped up and stowed in the buttstock in case the stock one fails  (or vice versa ,- install a GI part and keep the Springfield one put away for a rainy day that hopefully will never happen

I don't think my rifle will see near the volume some of you put through yours - but it never hurts to be prepared

Yep, a USGI extractor is probably the first thing to pick up, but I'm not sure about keeping it in the buttstock.

I know there are people who can work on the bolt without the bolt tool, but I'm not one of them. I'd have to keep the bolt tool with the spare extractor if I had to swap it out in the field

I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else, but both spurs snapped off my Springfield hammer after about 600 or so rounds. I picked up a USGI hammer and replaced the cheaply made commercial hammer. Something else you might want to pick up.

If you have a spent .30-06 case and something small enough to push it out from underneath.  I guess you could throw a punch in there.  I'm not sure but a 5.56 round might be good enough.  Never tried that though.  I've never used a tool on the M1A.  You just keep the bolt in the gun, put a .30-06 spent case in chamber and push bolt against it to push back the ejector and tap out the extractor.  Makes it somewhat simple.  Now an M1 Carbine, forget it.
