And as you may or may not know, I have given out my "sample trust" to easily 100s of people.

I just noticed a trend in that many are doing general trusts and their lawyer is seeking Trusts folks have used for NFA.

I think I will have to delete the Trust I have posted on the web and stop giving it out.  Here's why:
*****************************************************************************************************************

ARFCOM_Member:

I wonder if you would be so kind as to IM me the sample of the trust you used for your NFA items.

I have a local attorney doing one for me and he wants to be sure to get it right.

   Thanks, ARFCOM_Member

ME:

Not to be a wise ass, but if the atty you are paying has to look at mine, you should really consider another lawyer.  One in the thread was charging $250, which IMO is very fair.  FWIW, here's mine.  BTW - what is this guy charging you?

ARFCOM_Member:

Don't know what he will charge, but it will be fair.  He is doing some work on our will and springing trust, so he's throwing this in too.  I know I could get this done elsewhere, but I'm one of those guys that likes to do business at home.  He just wants to be sure he has all the "magic language", (his words), regarding the NFA part of this in there.  Thanks much, ARFCOM_Member

ME:

More advice: he has no clue on NFA. There is no magic language.  Just hearing an atty say that would send me elsewhere.  He doesn't even understand a Trust concept and while you may like doing business at home, I wouldn't trust him to do an "A-B" or "springing Trust" either.

IMO either do a seperate Trust just for the NFA items yourself, pay the other guy in the thread $250 or avoid a Trust altogether.  In fact, I would drop this atty like a hot rock.  He's not qualified to do the work you've asked him to do.

Property is property, NFA items or not.

Your call, but I do not get that warm, fuzzy feeling with this atty and I damned sure wouldn't pay him to use someone else's language when all I have to do is enter the names/addresses.

In fact - you can bet he'll use the doc I gave you to specialize in NFA Trusts, when in fact he knows zero about them.

You are making a big mistake using this guy for any legal work, but good luck to you in any case.
********************************************************************************************************************

So what say ARFCOM?  If I need a sample Trust, where I simply change the names/addresses and the like - why do I need a lawyer?

Would YOU pay a lawyer for this "service?"

Would you trust then to do any legal work for you?

I sure as hell wouldn't.

the only advantage i see is this,
when you pay someone to do something they become liable if it's not done right.

So the lawyer will do the 10 years and pay the 250K for him while he just walks free?

Best he will get is a defense and if he fucked up the Trust, do i really want to stake everything on him at a trial?

Hey, who knows, I can be a great welder but it is nice to look at a picture of what I am supposed to weld.

Maryland_Shooter, I am still trying to figure out how you have over 17 thousand posts in less than 3 years.  That is like 15-20 posts a DAY.

Do your homework. If your state has straight forward trust rules, like mine, just get Willmaker, Nolo, etc...

The only lawyers I could find around here are $600-1K, which for a few SBRs and silencers isn't a small deal. If I owned MGs I'd probably pay the cash.

I can't speak for everyone. It's all about what you're comfortable with. I've done my homework to the point where I know a general trust will work for me. The only thing I need is a PDF editor so I can edit the trust and add items to the schedule A.

Open your Adobe file and hit keyboard keys Control and A at the same time, this will highlight everything on your Adobe file, then just right click and select copy (or you can Control and C) then open up your MS WORD and then Control and V key to paste it to word. Then you can format, edit etc or what ever. That is what I did with my Nolo willmaker.
