I moved the CJ Accessories Striker-14 to my SOCOM to try it out.

Also has a Rooster stainless spring guide and Smith Tact release. The KAC sling swivel is going to get moved back.

I'm going to make a few more changes, so it's a work in progress.

The irons are clear as a day through the channel in the Striker.

Thanks for the compliment!

You can find the Striker-14 at CJ Weapons Accessories (It's the last item listed in the M14/M1A section)

I liked it over the other RASes because the top rail goes all the way back to the stripper clip guide.

Turned out pretty darn cool. I can't wait to see it in a LAW483 stock

RE: Striker 14 rail system:

How is it supported in the front? A normal forend would move around in the ferrule (I can't think of what it's called right now) in the front- is this taken care of (via a setscrew or something) with this rail?

Also, are any other mods required or is that it?

Interested... but the $425 price tag is getting close to the cost of a LAW483 stock...

TIA

It uses a clamp that squeezes the barrel with 2 front screws. The rear you just need to pop the sripper clip guide out and replace it with the rear connector point.

It's super simple to put on.

The one big advantage is you have a top rail that runs a looooooong way on top.

"Lawstocks" are TOPS!!! Not to mention Tony is a very patient good natured guy. Imagine that, even after dealing with the filthy hoards on here he maintains a good attitude.

Thanks very much! Kind of you to say. I should mention that the Striker does add weight, but itdue to the size of the SOCOM, it's not at all unwieldy or cumbersome. It's like hefting and using a mace!

LOL.

Thanks. Next I'm going to try an IOR 1.1-4 scope on it.

How bad is the cheek (chin?) weld on that stock with the Eotech?

Not bad at all.

My other M1A has the Rooster comb riser for my Nightforce. I've tried the EoTech on there and it's great. It's been my experience that magnified optics need a good cheek rest for consistent shooting. However, a point sight really doesn't. Also, the lack of a riser or pad allows for use of the iron sights through the Striker rail. I've recently mounted an IOR 1.1-4 w/ ARMs mount on the SOCOM and it sits low enough to get by without a riser.

hepcat85, what is the device on the rail forward of the EOTech sight in the photo? You have a sharp looking CQB rig.

That's a Laser Devices Inc OTAL (Offset Tactical Aiming Laser)

Here's a pic from their web page:

Now that I have the IOR 1.1-4 mounted I have the best of both worlds, CQB with the option of reaching out a little at x4. I have the cleaner MP9 reticle. I'll take a couple of pics and post. Overall, it's a weapon in transition. I have some other plans for my SOCOM.

Different, thanks for the compliment. High praise indeed.

You might remember the Striker-14 RAS that's on the SOCOM as originally being mounted on my M1A standard.

I decided to move it to the SOCOM to lighten it up. With the Nightforce, it's a more precision weapon and I didn't see the need for a light and OTAL. The M1A Standard now has a Smith platform for the scope, TPS rings (the pictured NightForce rings were too high for my taste), ventilated handguard and almost all TRW parts: Barrel, bolt and Op-Rod. The Trigger is H&R. The tac sling is gone and currently has a mil canvas sling. I've retained the Versapod. It looks like a Rapier....lol. The SOCOM however is certainly more of a Mace.
