I got a beat up 835 a while back that works fine but I really want to be able to switch things up with it. I've been looking at the high capacity kit for the 500 at brownells (includes tube, spring, follower, and 20" bbl) just want to know if the thread pitch is the same and if I would need anything else to change it. I'm fine with losing the 3 1/2 ability

Thanks,
Nathan

The 500 and 835 use different barrels.  I have a 590A1 that I put a 28 in sporting barrel on for bird hunting.  I can only use 3in shells thought.  All the mossberg accesories for the 590A1 should fit on your shotgun, Mossberg actually makes an 18.5 inch barrel for the 835.

Yeah, 835s and 500s don't share barrels.
If you want to use a 590A1 setup, you would need a whole 590A1 mag tube as well, since the ring is all the way up front.

I'm aware that the 835 and 500 don't share barrels but assuming I use a 500 tube (if the thread pitch is the same) would the 500 barrel work with the receiver.

Don't think so, I'm pretty sure the chamber end of the barrel is larger on the 835.

I don't have a 500 anymore to compare for sure, if someone wants to measure the ID of a 500 receiver port for the barrel, we can compare that to the 835.

Tag as I was just wondering the reverse. Have a beat up 500 wanted to swap mag tube so I could use 835 or 590 barrels.

Get an 18.5 inch barrel from Mossberg and a Choate 835 +1 magazine extension.

I have both Mossberg's 835's and 590's.  And I can tell you from FIRST HAND EXPIERENCE that everything from the front of the receiver of the 590 can be moved to the 835, as long as you don't mind loosing the 3.5" capability.
But you can also order an 18.5" Heavy Walled Security Barrel direct from Mossberg for around $100-$120, the difference between Matte Blue and Parkerized.  Then add the 4.25" Choate +1 Extension, and you basically end up with an M835A1
that will handle everything from 2 3/4" to 3.5" 12Ga. shells.  Mine will also feed and eject without any issues the Aquila 2.5" Mini-Shells.

If you want the Mossberg Part Number for the 18.5" Heavy Walled Security Barrel, let me know, I'll give it to you.
