How do I tell if I can shoot 3 inch shells?

It is a 590, not a 590A1.


Also, I have quite a bit of rattle from my forearm, is that normal? How do you fix that?

I've got a Mossy 590 (designation stamped on the bottom of the receiver in front of the loading port).  And yes, it will shoot 3" shells.  Your barrel should have that info stamped on it on the left side next to the Mossberg name stamped on the barrel.

And, my fore end rattles abit also.  Not as tight as my Winchester 1300, which does not rattle.  I gather that is just the way they're made.  Never a problem with mine.  Love the Mossy 590.
