Do these come with a factory heat shield? Where can I get one and how much?
Are there any markings that can tell a 590 or 590A1 apart?
Are the 590A1 GR sights any good? (Are they worth $35  more?)
Whats the going price for 590A1 (w/o heat shield) with GR sights and with regular beaded sights?

The 590A1 only comes in one configuration.  Ghost ring sights, and no heat shield.  The ghost ring sights are excellent, well worth the money.

The 590 can be had in multiple configs.  Bead sight & heat shied or GR sights & no shield, blued or parked.

A 590 will be marked "590" and a 590A1 will be marked "590A1" on the bottom of the reciever.  The 590A1 will also have large letters on the left side of the reciver "M590A1"  The 590A1 has a Heavy walled barrel.

Don't know about a price.  I get my stuff for cost from a friendly FFL.

With a little bit of tweaking, it will fit.

You'll need to spread the clamp apart a little bit for it to fit over the heavy barrel of the 590A1.

To answer the original question, yes the GRS are worth it.  For the value, a 590A1 is really hard to beat as a combat shotgun, particularly one with a high magazine capacity and quality sights.  I was a little surprised at how much elevation I had to crank into the rear sight to get it zeroed POI/POA at 50 yards with Federal Tactical slugs, but once it's on, it's on.

Doesn't the A1 have a metal safety and all other plastic?

Although metal safety can be added from the after market, so don't let it convince you it is a used 590A1.

Out of the box, the only thing a 590 with GRS needs is a Wolff magtube spring and a plastic Hi-Viz follower.  That's it.  Sights are great, stocks are good, recoil pad is good.  Of course mine all wear Tacstar sidesaddles and buttcuffs, and have their buttstocks shortened an inch, but that's just my preference.

Metal safety schmafety.  Tighten the plastic unit down a couple screw turns and it's slick as snot and totally reliable.  Sit in front of the TV a couple nights just "dry" racking the action and it'll slick up like warm buttah.

Anyone know WHICH Wolff Mag Tube Spring to use on the 590A1???

I was playing with my spring, and it seem VERY weak to me.

Thanks!

I've not had any trouble with respect to the mag spring.  I did shorten the butstock though.  Other than than that the guns has been great.

I bought one back in 98 or 99 for less than $350. I sold it right before Y2k when I needed $$ one year for Xmas. They are very robust guns.  The M590A1 has the thick walled barrel, metal tguard, metal safety, and upgraded internals.  One thing that Ive read and experienced myself is that the firecontrol pins can have a tendency to walk out.

590 a1 is roughly 500 for decent price, with the speed feed stock and about 450 for the normal syn. stock. Im also in the process of buying one too. does the 18.5" have the bayonet lug or just the 20", mossberg shows only with 20", but I have seen some with.....help !!

One problem I've heard about the bayonet lug is "IF" you put a Surefire Integrated Light/Foregrip, the lug is in the way.  You either have to chop it off, or move it.  I've heard of it being silver soldered 90* off......
