You guys that have them can you fit 3 mags in the carrier and still use the chest rig clipped on comfortably?

I'm looking into getting this combo and wanted some first hand knowledge.

Thanks.

Yep.  No issue. 4 mags.

Keep in mind they are going to be pretty hard to get too if you do it that way. Another option is attaching the HSP Magazine wedge in between and offsetting it a little bit upwards, giving you two extra mags. Also the "Stuff-it" pouch can hold two magazines. Works especially well with PMAGs as the webbing on the side locks in between the ribs on the PMAGs giving you pretty good retention

I went with the Esstac kydex wedge inserts and got rid of the pull tabs.  This made all of the mags easier to manipulate and still provides excellent retention.

I believe the OP's question was about using a 3 mag kangaroo pouch insert in the APC and then also attaching the D3 on top of that, for a potential at carrying 7 mags up front total.

IMO this is not a good idea.  For one, the fastex attachments for the D3 will cover the two outward mags in the kangaroo pouch and only really allow access to the one center-most mag on the PC.

Additionally, you would then be looking at a lot of bulk up front.  2 layers of rifle mags and all the cordura in between, plus the other pouches on the front of the D3.

That is what I get for skimming.    I agree that it wouldn't be a good idea for the reasons you state.

So it would be better to use the 2 mag pouch that comes with the exspansion set?

It would be a better idea in that you would actually have access to all your mags, yes.

However if it were me and I wanted to up the amount of rifle mags on this setup, I would add mag pouches to the cummerbund instead of layering under the D3 to help reduce so much bulk up front.

If you have to carry more than 4 + 1.  Personally I'd rather give up the extra 2 for less bulk.

I agree with this poster. I would add them to the cumberbunds and reduce the bulk. I have the apc and d3 and I the main reason I went this route was to keep things fairly simple, light, and slim profile. Use the StuffIt if you need extra mags, mount them to the cumberbund, or maybe consider throwing a few on a belt if you run one.
