I just picked up a Marlin 336 in 30.30 win and I am thinking about scoping it. Any one got ideas about a decent scope that's not to expensive? I can’t see spending more on the scope that I did for the rifle. Also, I would like mounting height suggestions.

Its not uncommon to spend more for good optics than a rifle.  A fogged up scope or broken reticle can turn an expensive rifle in to a big stick at the worst times.  I would get a nice basic Nikon 4x and call it good.  My Marlins are either peep sighted or have a Leupold 1.5-5 or a 3-9.  They shoot well enough to be worth it.  Stay away from the cheap Wallmart specials like Bushnell Sportviews....

Depending on where and how you hunt a good set of see thru mounts is never a bad way to go with a Marlin.  I tend to carry mine a lot and like a lower mount for good balance.

Looking at the Weaver Classic V 1-3 x 20, what hight rings would I need if mounting on Weaver quad lock system?

Use Weaver steel bases.  They are low and you can use any Weaver-style.  A 2.5 or 4X are more than enough.

The new Redfields are made by Leuopold. The 2x7x33 are 129.00 from most places and 3x9x40 are 149.00.

Hard to beat that price for a good scope and American made!!!!

Opticsplanet has free shipping over 75.00

A Weaver fixed 4X  would work for a modestly priced one as well.

Weaver K4 4x gets my vote.  Weaver V3 1-3 would be fine too.

For some reason, I really want to try one the Redfields. I have a 700 with a Tasco that would be perfect. I'm kind of holding out for a widefield. They've been hinted at.
For low cost, that's what I'd try on the Marlin.

For my 336, I want a Leupold FX-II IER and the XS Lever Scout Mount. But that's probably gonna cost more than the rifles.
