Here is maybe an odd idea.  I own the rifle pictured below.  Hogue stock and Pac-Lite fluted and threaded barrel with SWR Warlock suppressor.

It is extremely quiet…except for CLACK CLAK of the action. I believe there is a buffer or bumper that I can install that will help with the first CLACK of the action going back, but there is still the CLACK of the action going forward right?

Has anyone ever tried putting a dowel or something against the action handle in order to prevent the action from moving while firing?  Obviously this would mean that for each shot I would have to pull the blocker out, rack the action, replace the blocker ect ect, but I’m just wondering if it’s been done.  Or if there is another way to get that action whisper quiet?

I had a rather odd idea for making it whisper quiet.  My idea was to mill off a portion of the bolt.  Drill and Tap it, and then SCREW in a rubber pad to the bolt.  That way when the bolt slammed back home it would be cushioned by rubber.

Damn you.  Now I need to draw something up!  yarg!

Get a bolt buffer.  WeaponKraft is what I use.  It's made out of a polymer, and will replace your steel bolt stop pin.

As for single shot...get some .22 shorts.  They won't have enough umph to cycle the action.
CB caps?
Or just hold the bolt shut with your thumb.

You can hold the bolt closed with your thumb or weak hand.  It won't hurt, and you can do the same thing with a .45.

For what you paid for that barrel, you could have bought one of these:

You first.

I can use the Agulia Super Colibri and that will not cycle, but still come out of the barrel.  I have used them before.  But I was just hopeing to use a "full power shot" with out any action moving.

i have a stevens 87A you can lock the bolt forward on so it only shots one round then to shot semi all you have to do is pull it to the right and chamber a round i am thinking about putting a silencer on it instead of the 10/22 just for that reason

I've done it numerous times. I'm a lefty, and use my right hand wrapped aroudn the mag, with my thumb pushing forward on the bolt lever. Works great.

Now, my 22/45 is a little bit harder of a punch. mosty likely cause the bolt is going straight back into my hand, as opposed to the bolt pushing the lever back into my thumb.

But yes, with a .22 you can hold the bolt forward. I can take a short video if you'd like. I too hesitated the first time i heard of this trick. But one day i held a piece of wood near the bolt. Hardly dented the wood. So i tried it with my locked thumb. Works great.

Another idea i've had is a hook of some sort. Screw it into the side of the stock, and flip it up aroudn the bolt handle when you want single shot. The hook will stop the bolt travel. rotate the hook down, manually cycle the action, rotate hook up, and fire again.

I discovered by accident that you can hold the bolt shut with a finger with no ill consequences. Try it!

I have a Marlin bolt action.  I lov eit. Adn I have thought aout threading it.  I was not wanting to completely disable the 10/22 for all time.  I was just wondering how to do it a few shots.  You know.  For those extra covert squirrel missions.

If the bolt can be stopped by the human hand, then a wooden dowl should work great.  Thanks guys.

I hold the bolt shut all the time with my thumb. I do the same with the slide on my S&W 2206 and my Walther P22. I've done this with CCI Blazer, Federal Value Pack, but mostly with CCI subsonic and it is never an issue.

thumb works great, it's free & much faster than anything mechanical, the bolt pushes back alot less than you would think.

Piece of para-cord looped around your fingers, run over the top of the barrel and around the bolt handle, works good, and reloads are quick.

I'll post a link to my pics as soon as I get done making supper.

Hey!

I'm not afraid to use my thumb since so many have said it's fine.  I just want to hold the rifle normaly, not changing my shooting position to put my thump on the bolt.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
