I've seen several references about removing the magazine disconnect lever, and it is implied that it makes the GSG better.  Can someone explain exactly what it is making better and why?

Are you thinking of the magazine safety? It allows you to fire the weapon without a magazine in the weapon...helps if you have a jam involving an unfired round in teh chamber...
