sniped,

The optics are Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x 40mm Tactical.  I really want to send it out to get the new Gen 2 Mil-Dot reticles and M1 adjustment knobs installed but other expenses keep popping up...

M4maddness,

You'll love it!  Give us range report when you get your PSS out!

Has anyone ever had one of the custom shops do the M-14 mag upgrade on their PSS or other 700 model?  I'm wondering how well it really works and if it's worth the money to do?

Abri,

All Remington Factory.  My PSS came with the TWS (Tactical Weapon System)which included everything you see pictured.  I've heard the PSS rifles are hand picked for the TWS kits and are built in their factory custom shop.  Not sure if this is true or not, probably just a rumor.

71DL,

Nice!  How much did the Cryo treatment reduce your groups?  What did it Cryo treatment cost?

Later!

Just picked up my own PSS model with a Leopold VariX III Long Range M1 with 30mm tube and mil dots.  A Ranger School graduation present to myself, haven't fired it yet though.

What power range is your scope?  I also saw that Leupold has the illuminated Mil-Dot reticles, did you look into an illuminated one when you got your scope?

Troy,

I'm using the Badger setup like yours, except I have the Springfield 4-14x56 3rd Generation scope on it.  The sling you see below is a Turner Saddlery Hathcock model.

I love it!  Haven't had a single problem.  Optics are sharp, large objective lets in tons of light, and the BDC actually works!

Nice toys guys!

The Badger base and rings look like a really rugged setup.  Tell me more about them and how much?

I got mine from www.premierreticles.com

I think I paid about $115 for the base and $115 for the rings.  They aren't cheap, but they are damn nice.

Jared,

The base and rings on my rifle are all Leupold. I'm not sure which models they are but they've held up really well.  As I mentioned earlier they came with the TWS kit.  I'll try to go through my docs and see if they are listed.

Now Guys , when it comes to bases or rings ... don't choke  , you have to do the right thing . Do yourself a favor and get the Mk.4 rings & bases. You'll wind up kicking yourself if you don't !

3.5x10x40, yeah, I thought about the illuminated reticles, but what's the point?  I figure for most long range shooting, the illuminated reticle may be visible, but will the target?  Worse comes to worse, a good spotlight will light up both the deer... I mean targets and the reticle will be back lit.  So I've heard, anyway.

The LTR is also a fine choice, a little lighter, shorter and it also shoots just as good, mine shoots 1/2" MOA at 100 yds with Federal 168 gr match. I do like the PSS though and it was a tough choice. BTW very nice rifle.

I have the VS (308) and the Sendero (300 win mag).  Both are great rifles.  I am currently working on getting a PSS in .223.  The badger rings and base are the only way to go.  I have a VX3 4.5-14x50 on my VS and am working on optics for the Sendero.
Remington makes a darn good bolt action stick!

The Badger products are MUCH better than the MKIVs.  I've been able to compare them myself.  You should ask around, or at least read the review I posted...

Agreed, Badger Ordnance makes a much better product.

I also bought badger base and rings for it, now.. I need a good bipod and case.. :)

I too have a '93 era 24" barrel .308 PSS. I trued the action, lapped the lugs, bedded the action and set the barrel back 1 1/2 threads to cut a match chamber. Rifle has 4,000 rounds through it and put three rounds in 1/4 inch at 100 yards two weeks ago. Usually run 168 grain Sierra's over Accurate 2520 through it. It's topped with a Mark IV M3 with lapped Smith rings on a Leupold base. I made two head shots on an IPSC target at 500 meters during a marksman match about 4 years ago. Funny story. Match director said that anyone making headshots on the 500 meter target would have 10 seconds subtracted from their time for each shot. We all laughed thinking it was impossible. I was in a hurry and accidently set the cam one click past the 5 mark as I was moving to the 500 meter target. Aimed center mass and what do you know. I of course put on the act that I meant to do it.

I'm starting on my next 700 .223 project. Picked up a 700 ADL in .223 at the gun show along with a new takeoff PSS stock and bottom metal. Just ordered a Shilen barrel from Brownells for it. Plan to cut it to 20" and thread it 1/2x28 for a Vortex flash hider. I have an old Leupold 3.5-10 Tactical that I had Precision Reticles put a Marine Mil-Dot in and remove the long windage knob. That will sit on top of it.

I just got a Mk4 M3 w/ Gen2 mil-dots for my 24" PSS.  I pretty impressed with that reticle.  I can't wait to do some ranging trials with it.

The PSS is such a sweet rifle...I can't believe some of the shots that thing's made.  It only eats Black Hills 168gr. BTHPs at present.  I'm hoping someday to start reloading and finding out if I can come up with some home cookin' for it.

P.S. The M3 scope replaced a V-XIII 4.5x14x40mm.  I'm having the Gen 2 dots installed in it, then I'll let it pull some duty on top of my Bushy 20" bbl (using the Armalite one-piece mount).  That ought to be fun!
