On the M1 carbine I should be useing grease on the slide , bolt lugs ,and hammer/bolt contact area and oil on the hammer and slide springs. Is ths correct? The books I have on this gun have all kinds of great history and collector info but little info on how to make it run happy. Thanks for the help.

Grease on all high speed metal to metal contact points. Oil on springs. That is of course for normal climates and conditions. Extreme cold or desert conditions require different lubes.

Please note that gun grease is wholly different than what you grease your car with. Never use car grease on your rifle.
