Greetings -

I bought myself a SAI M1A NM for a Christmas present, and I'm considering utilizing a Nikon Monarch 6.5X20X44 BDC atop a Sadlak Ti mount. I have this same glass on a FP10LE2B and have been quite pleased with its performance, but what I'm wondering is whether the Nikon is going to stand up to the M1A's recoil.

Previously, I canted the reticle on a Pentax Lightseeker XL 4X16X44 that was mounted on a Loaded, and am wondering if the Nikon atop the M1A is going to suffer the same fate.

Anyone have experience with Nikons and M1A's?

Thanks for the input.

here

Jesting aside, if the Nikon withstood the recoil of your BOLT-ACTION, why would it have any trouble with a GAS-OPERATED semi-auto?

But then I have a Leupold on mine, so I can't say from any personal experience, but Nikon has a decent reputation.

Quoted:
There are very few scopes built that can take the harsh and punishing recoil of an M1A. Normal glass will turn to dust under its abuse. You really need something like a Leapers or ATN to handle that much gun.

While it is most likely not an issue, the M1-A has a good amount of FOWARD recoil when the bolt comes foward. This has cause some issue with scopes in the past.. But I have not read anything recently about it.

Well, if the Nikon has withstood the recoil forces of my 10FPLE2B, and BigDawg308 is happy with his atop an AR-10, I'm thinking there will thus be no problems or issues with the Monarch and the M1A.

I went ahead and ordered the scope, along with a set of Badger inserts to reduce the SEI 30mm rings to 1".

Thanks for the input.

You will be happy with the Monarch series. I have the same setup as Bigdog and mine has been 100%.

Post pics when you get it set up

I had a Browning BAR in 300 Win Mag that had a Nikon 4-12x40 Monarch on it. I never had a problem with the scope.

I ran a Nikon Monarch 2-7x32 on my M1A for a while with no problems, as a matter of fact, it is now on my FAL. Still no problems. I had a Nikon Monarch 4-12x44 on my AR-10 untill I sold the AR-10. Next the 4-12 went on my Remy M700 in .308, again, no problems. I took it off and replaced it with a Leupold VXIII 6.5-20x40 but soon replaced it with a Nikon Tatical 2.5-10x44, LOVE that scope!

As you may have noticed, I have been very happy with Nikon Monarch scopes.
BTW, I have two of their 3.3-10x44 Mil Dot Monarchs, one on my Bushy Varmitier and the other on my Bushy 20" V-Match AR. Very nice glass.

So I have 4 Nikon Monarchs and two Leupolds, I prefer the Nikons to the Leupolds.

Good Luck,
Bill

UPDATE ---

The Nikon 6X20X44 arrived yesterday. Unfortunately, the 30mm to 1" adapter inserts are backordered. Instead of the SEI rings I had to utilize a set of Leupold QR rings that make the scope sit a bit higher on the mount than would the SEI.

Decided I would put the Nikon on a Loaded instead of the NM for the time being...

SAI M1A Loaded. "Big Red" stock. SEI steel mount. Leupold medium height QR rings. Nikon Monarch UCC 6X20X44AO

Nice set-up. You may find its more comfortable to shoot if you add a cheek rest.  I put a adjustable one on my fiberglass stock and it sure made a world of difference.
