Could someone help me out? Do these look similar to the earlier M14 double mag pouches?
If someone had a pic it would be most appreciated.

Here is pic ; Left-right, M14, Canvas 4x20, Nylon 4x20. The canvas one in pic is missing lanyard and grenade straps, I cut them off and use it to carry shotgun shells.
Be aware that the canvas 20 round mag pouches tend to shrink with age and you can't get 4 mags to fit in some.

Also 99.999% of the nylon 20 round mag pouches on the " Surplus" market today are fakes and real ones in verygood condition are getting hard to find...

The universal mag pouch, canvas, would also hold IIRC 5 30rd M1 Carbine Mags.

Most of the Universal M1956 canvas pouches would actually hold (5) 20 rd M-16 mags.

The fifth mag would fit in the top of the pouch lid. Sometimes hard to get out, but an old VN trick my uncle taught me.

If you are looking for a good way to carry 20 round M16 Mags, a 7 pocket bandoleer is hard to beat. One mag fits nicley into each pocket.

I am the fortunate owner of teo of the Air Force Colt survival rifle type mag pouches, each one holds two 20 round AR mags and has a snap and eye closure, are green rubberized canvass. These are pretty rare as understand it...rare as waffle mags...and are about the nicest 20 round pouches you can imagine. So nice I can't understand why the gov't didn't manufacure more. Do some research on the Colt Survival rifle...it will probably interest you.
