I have a Marlin 917V (sweet gun btw) and I want to put a scope on it. I figure a mid-grade scope like a BSA or something similar will suffice just fine. Before I do, I need to locate some information on the round's capabilities, if nothing else for my own education.

Anyone have a link? My searches thus far have proved .... less than sufficient.

Thanks fellas.

They go fast but don't set off the tannerite.

By the way, BSA has the "SWEET 17" line of scopes; my son has one and it seems to work just fine.

They have some nice ballistic tips that ought to wreck some varmints out to 100 yards or so. I figure that'd be some of the farthest shooting I'd encounter.

I'm interested to learn about the trajectory of the round and it's bullet drop. Also the terminal ballistics.

I love this rifle....it has 25% more muzzle velocity than the 22winmag.....it's essentially a rimfire on crack!!!

I found some pretty good 17hmr info here. www.varmintal.com/17hmr.htm

Those little savage 17hmr's are really THE best buy in 17's IMO. My father in law has one and for less than $200 bucks its a fantastic little rimfire. I think he has the BSA sweet 17 on his. we can both hit crows easily out to about 200yds with that thing. The hornady V-max's will really tear them up

SWEET...that's what I was hunting for! Thanks!

Damn I can't fathom how I got along without this gun. I'm going to order a BSA scope from SWFA. They're giving a free boresighter kit with any purchase.
