I have my dads Marlin lever gun in 45/70 in my safe.

It is currently outfitted with a very nice peep sight setup from Lyman (IIRC). The receiver is drilled/tapped for a scope rail. I am wanting to remove the peep and mount an optic on it and maybe use it for deer hunting when I hunt in the woods.

I am looking for a qaulity scope base. Can anyone recommend one?

IIRC the lever gun is a Marlin 1895SS.

I have a Marlin 1895 that I just had cut down from 22" to 18". Right now it has a Tasco 3x9 scope mounted on a Weaver rail using Weaver rings. I am eventually going to swap out that scope for either a Leupold or Redfield 2x7 scope, mounted with Leupold QD rings on an XS Lever Rail..... The XS rail will allow for mounting a rear iron sight as a backup in case of scope failure.....

I just put on a DNZ Dednutz scope mount in silver on my 1895gs and it's a solid mount.I highly recommend it.

About $50.00

Never seen that one. Looks like a single unit?

I will check it out and see if they make a matte black one.

+1 for the DNZ mount. I have one on my guide gun.

I do not use scopes on my levers, but if I did, I agree with Mic214 on the LeverRail set-up. If not that I would use Warne steel weaver bases, ( they are 2 very short good looking, super solid bases) leupold QD rings and have an XS low weaver back-up sight if I wanted or needed to pop off the scope and attach the (pre-zeroed) XS ghost ring back-up sight within about one minute.
