I am horrible when it comes to sharpening a blade with a flat stone so I'm looking into a sharpening system like the Spyderco Sharpmaker or the Lansky systems. Anyone have a preference or suggestions?

I have this lansky and like it a lot - no brainer about keeping the right anle and consistent stroke

I bought the Spyderco sharpening system a few months back and have to say that it is the best thing I have ever used....got it from here Spyderco SharpMaker, watch the DVD that comes with it and every knife in your house will dry shave in no time.

I also bought the Sharpmaker a few months ago and love it. Picked it up from a dealer on ebay for just over $50 shipped. I am still pretty new to sharpening my own knives, after i got the Sharpmaker i was able to get a hair shaving edge on my first try. I have since sharpened all of my knives including a few that still had the factory edge.

The only complaints i ever see about it is it takes a very long time to reprofile a blade and if you are not careful you can ruin the tip of a knife.

I've had good luck with the Sharpmaker.

It's pricey but the wicked edge system is without question the most repeatable and idiot proof way to achieve mirror finished RAZOR sharp blades. Warning it is pricy

I have good results with the DMT Aligner. It's like a Lansky but I like the way it works better.

I haven't had good luck with my Sharpmaker. I've watched the videos. I just need to practice I guess.
