I have no idea who makes them now or which ones would be considered the best of the bunch. I don't need a new one, just a good one. Something that is a good shooter and has a smooth action. Please advise, thanks

the henry's are fun little guns to shoot. Havent tried any other pump models though so i wouldnt know how to compare them.

I forgot to mention Browning, a friend of mine owns a Browning .22 pump, not sure if they still make'em, didn't find it on browning.com

I've always wanted one. I saw one with what seemed like a short barrel in .17hmr awhile back that I really wanted but it seemed a little high for me. It was really nice though. It seemed like it might be a Henry.

Could have been the Taurus M172.

It has been discontinued in 17hmr.

The M172C is the 17 hmr version carbine.
The M72C is the 22 version Carbine.
