I'm looking into getting a lightweight Plate Carrier.
I've got the heavy, full-battle-rattle releasable carrier already, but it's not something I can keep in the trunk of my car, or with my rifle 99% of the time. It's bulky, heavy, slow to don, and not too practical for a 'bump in the night' quick-don sort of thing. Want one in TAN or MultiCam to fit Large L4 stand-alone ceramic plates. What would you guys recommend of these choices: Blackhawk Lightweight Plate Carrier: http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Lightweight-Plate-Carrier-Harness,1511,83.htm Or the Gen1 DBT FAPC... http://www.diamondbacktactical.com/product/Diamondback-Tactical-Fast-Attack-Plate-Carrier,33,6.htm Or the US Palm Defender... http://uspalm.com/index.php?option=com_products&view=product&id=10 Keep in mind: 1.) I can get the Blackhawk for about 50% off its retail price... REALLY making the BHI PC somewhat attractive at about $75 bucks. 2.) Not sure if DBT sells plate carriers to the public - when I called them about 2 years ago - they told me the didn't. 
Gen1 DBT FAPC is only about $90 bucks, but why might this one be better? Is it more comfortable than the BHI LWPC? 3.) I can't seem to find ANY USPalm sellers that have any clue when their "Defender" PC is actually going to become available, nor can I get an accurate price. No idea when these will ever be more available, or at what price point... What are your comments/suggestions? Do any of you guys know of any OTHER choices for a lightweight / low profile plate carrier with Molle attachments in a decent price range? I suspect this rig will spend most of its time locked up in the trunk of a car. Thanks guys!!! |

Out of your list, all are airsoft/low quality carriers, except the DBT.
If I were you, and you don't have a need for soft armor and just plates, I would go to the Grey Group website. They carry MSA and Mayflower plate carriers that are top notch for a good price. Professionals wear both of these, and you don't see any real operators running Blackhawk plate carriers. Check out this website and see what looks good to you. I ordered my Paraclete RBAV from Grey Group and they are very knowledgable. IIRC correctly, DBT doesn't restrict the sale of carriers, only of armor.

I checked the Grey Group site. The mayflower PC that holds Concealment Cut armor looks great...
Anybody else know about any other plate carriers that might fit the bill, or also possibly hold Concealment Cut armor? Carrying Concealment Cut Armor isn't a necessity. I'm leaning toward just having a lightweight PC that can be worn over soft concealment armor. My current setup is just too heavy, expensive, and I don't want something like that just hanging out in the trunk of my car all the time incase somebody manages to break into the car...  This will be more for a 'Trunk Gun' Lightweight Plate Carrier. |

I've been running this carrier at work for the better part of a year now.... http://www.tacticaltailor.com/hybridenhancedvest.aspx I've never used the mayflower carrier, but I think they are similar in design. This isn't something you will throw on quickly, it takes a minute to get on. Mine is set up with my issued armor, concealment cut, and plates. I'm not sure you will find something other than this type of rig, or mayflower or similar, that will hold concealment cut armor and plates. Hope this helps. JC |

Tactical Tailor Modular Plate Carrier..
I have one.. like it.. but decided I didn't need it since I got my Beez PC w/ cumberbund since I can rock the Beez PC without the cumberbund if I wanted to. The only bad thing about the TT Modular PC is it really was meant to hold 11x14 plates.. you can run 10x12.. but you'll need to make something to keep the plate high and center.. this is my solution: 
I used closed cell foam(sleeping mat from the camping section of your favorite 'mart), duct tape(Gorilla tape rocks!), and paracord.. the paracord is use in the bottom to tie the foam together tight and hold the plate.. plate should ride as high as possible in the pocket. Works very well.. Level IV stand alone 10x12 plate on TT Modular PC:

It looks like it's still too small, but once int he plate pocket it rides at the very top of the pocket and in the center. Now this wouldn't work as well with soft armor.. but for a stand alone plate it's fine, and it gives you and the plate some extra padding. Doesn't add any noticeable bulk this way. |

The Mayflower carrier allows you to adjust the height of the plate in the carrier (in a very simple manner).
It's meant for 10x12 plates though. |

I just decided to go with the Eagle MultiCam MOLLE Plate Carrier, and got one with the Cummberbun too incase I want to make it a tad bit more versatile for a heavier loadout.
I'll be adding the L4 plates in the next month or so, and the soft Kevlar concealment cut armor in the next couple months. For now it works good as a basic lightweight plate carrier - lighter than my CIRAS vest anyway! As much as I LOVE the CIRAS vest system, I also really like the newer versions of the Multicam Molle Eagle Plate Carrier just as much. For my needs, as a civilian, it meets my needs for more concealable gear a tiny bit better than the CIRAS. Truth be told, there's not much that can beat the CIRAS vest, IMHO. This Eagle Multicam Plate Carrier w/ Cummberbun is a SWEEEEEEEEET little armor carrier though! Quite comfortable too with the extra shoulder pads! |
