I have quite a few larger, more powerful rifles, but they were inherited from my grandfather, and since my safe at my house is pretty much full, I keep them at my grandparents place.  Here is what I have here with me though.

Marlin 1895SS .45-70

Smith and Wesson .460XVR -

Among the rifles of mine that I keep at the familys place -

Ruger #1, .375 H&H
Ruger #1, .458 Win Mag

What do you think about that S&W 460? I understand that you can shoot 45LC, 454 Casull and the 460 mag in it but you have some 45ACP in the pic will it take moon clips of those as well?

No, doesnt take the moon clips, I just included that in there for size reference

I am VERY pleased with the 460 though.  Very accurate, out of the box I was able to hit a 12oz dr. pepper can at 50 yards with it, using 460 ammo.  The fireball is also very impressive.  The single action trigger is amazing, I know what I have been missing out on by not buying Smith and Wesson revolvers in the past.

Shooting .454 and .45 colt in it is practically nothing, that bix x-frame handles them like a champ.  Kicks far less than my raging bull in .454, or my freedom arms revolvers in .454 and .475 Linebaugh.

I know what you mean I looked at several 500mag X frames the other day, the trigge4rs were superb in them, as was the Model 610 I looked at.

Time to add a couple more S&Ws to my collection.

Are you happy you went with the 460 over the 500? I imagine the ammo copatibility was the issue you did it?

S.O.

Unless someone comes on with a 500 S&W and a 5bmg, you win!

My 44 mag and 45-70 seem small now.

Yes, I am happy with the 460, over the 500.  The local shop where I bought it had 3 .500's, and the one .460, and the others were actually cheaper than the .460 I got.  But it is brand new, so thats to be expected I guess.

Ammo compatibility was pretty much it, plus I was interested in the .460 itself, because of its speed and accuracy.  Having almost a 1000 rounds of 454 loaded up, lots of bullets, and reloading dies for .454 and 45 colt kind of helps too.

Not that I dont want a .500, that is just further down the list of priorities

Thank you, sir.

I'd like to pick up an ArmaLite AR-50 next, and maybe even suppress it one day. I guess I'd better start saving my pennies.
