I was loading some 40 S&W today, as the weather prohibits going out.  The last couple of time I have used this press I have had issues with the L-N-L bushings working themselves out.  this is especially true of the the one with the powder measure in it.

Am I doing something wrong?  Is this a common problem?

Is there an easy fix?

Are they locked all the way down?  I ran 1000 rounds of .40 yesterday, and my dies are all locked in tight.

If they are locked in, and are coming loose I'd call tech support.   They may not be in today depending on how bad the snow is.

I think they're locked in.  I turn them till they stop.  I don't notice a click or anything when I do this.  Ill try turning with chanel locks and see if that helps.

I should have asked is it the die coming out of the bushing or the bushing coming out of the press.

bushing coming out of the press.  It has happened on more than one die but the powder measure is the most problematic.

Have a similar issue with anything I put in the  de-capping station.  Have to tighten up any die I put in it every so often.  Dies get loose faster as force increases, i.e., don't have to tighten 9MM die as often as a 30.06.  Same thing with the shell plate screw.  Bothersome, but not enough to send the press back.

yeah have the issue with the shellplate screw too, and if you tighten it too much it doesn't intex right.

May try a lock washer on that one.  Figured that was normal.

Call Hornady.  They will send you a shim kit that will fix the problem.

While you're waiting for the shim use a wrench on the lock nut of the die to tighten the whole assembly when you insert it.  This cured the problem with the powder measure die for me.

Yep, I need to call for the shims, but wrenching them tight fixed it for me.  You can wrench it too tight, so don't go overboard.

Replace the 100 series o-ring on the LnL bushing with a 200 series o-ring of the same OD(I used a 213 o-ring) and the bushings will stay locked in place very well. I figured this out when I started using my Dillon 6.8 trimmer in my LnL single stage press and the torque from the trimmer would spin the bushing unlocked every time I turned the trimmer on(plus it would vibrate loose with use) so I replaced the o-ring with the larger one. Now it takes just a little downward force to compress the o-ring to get the bushing to lock into place but once it's locked into place it isn't coming loose for anything, it's a very snug fit and is much easier than messing with a shim every time you swap dies.

Where did you get said O-rings?
