How does krylon stand up against duracoat as far as durability and scratch resistance?

No comparison really...Duracoat is more or less like epoxy rather than paint.

Of your two choices, Duracoat wins hands down.

Duracoat ten times more durable

Krylon wipes off when using solvent that removes copper fouling off your gun (i.e. Hoppes Semi 9 Auto). Duracoat doesn't.

No contest...

Gun Scrubber = no more Krylon.

Duracoat, while IMHO is not as durable as some bake on coatings, is durable stuff once fully cured.

What is the most durable finish? I want to redo an entire shotgun.

My best luck (and I've tried 'em all) has been with KG Gunkote. Good prep is a must, and you have to have a big enough oven to bake each part at 325 deg for an hour.
