I've been thinking about getting one of these, but have a question. How does the action actually work?

It's a bolt in a carrier.  The carrier is pulled by the handle, which has cams cut in it that rotate the bolt out of lock.  Like a semi-auto, without the gas system.

It's a VERY well made action.  Get one.  Pull the bolt out and disassemble it.  You'll be amazed how well made it is.

So to cycle the action, you pull and push the ring in the back?

No, you grab the little beer keg looking knob on the right rear and pull it back, then push it forward.

The ring on the back of the bolt is the 'safety' mechanism.  To safety the rifle, you pull the ring back and twist it to the 'safe' position.
