SOG has K31s in stock again for $349.00. I took the hand pick option and added $10.00 to the price and bought a 60 round brick of ammo for $33.90.

I should have ordered one when they were $199.00.

Or better yet back when they were $89 shipped from AIM several years ago. No matter what you paid for it though, you will like it.

What with the "gunsmith specials" AIM was offering near the end, none of which needed any 'smithing, I think I paid a average of $79 shipped for all of these in the picture. The good old days.

I hope mine comes in looking that good.

You think they will continue to increase in value?

Probably so, although not quite as fast as they have in the last couple years. They are such well made pieces of mechanical art, and they shoot so well too. Of all my milsurp rifles the K31 "points" better than any other.

If anyone is still interested in any of these K-31s, SOGs price actually dropped to $329.
I ordered one and opted for the hand pick for an extra $10.  Overall it's still a nice rifle, but I think their ratings of condition are a bit liberal at best, especially considering I paid extra.
FWIW, I also have a K-11 that's 25yrs older that's in better condition..

They were waiting for me to order  before they lowered prices.

I swear I can walk into a free soup kitchen for dinner and as soon as I leave they start paying people to eat it.

Got it today. The metal is absolutely flawless. The stock still retains all of the original finish and has fewer dents and blemishes i the wood than my hunting rifle.
Perfect bore and very light but smooth trigger. all matching numbers. It had a tag under the butt plate.

Krebs Rudolf, 46
Bernstr. 44c
3067 BOLL

I figure it was his name, year of issue, address, and unit but I don't know what Bernstr. and BOLL mean.

The numbers show it was made in 1943.

I am excited to see how it shoots.

I think Boll is the city, and Bernstr, is short for Bernstrasse, or Bern street in english

The guy could still be around, but i doubt it if it was issued in 46.

I doubt it too.
The tag felt like some kind of plastic and the writing was in pencil.
Kinda makes me think fake.

No, that is the way some were.  My two are written in pencil as well.

No pics

And naturally after I finally remembered my photobucket password and snapped a pic, the damn battery died on the camera.

Well here are some pics.

The K31. Sorry about the quality all I had was my wife's crappy Coolpics camera.

And here is the K31, Chinese Type 53, and Yugo M57.

Looks like a great score!  The Swiss rifles have become my favorites and are my best shooters!  All three of mine had the service tags under the butt plate which just adds to the beauty of the rifles.

I got mine for way cheaper many moons ago, but I think anything less than five bills for a K31 is still a good price when the quality and craftsmanship is figured in.

The basic layout of these tags is:
Soldier's name and year of birth
Unit/company name
Residence or where he served

I'm not quite sure what the 44c is; I don't know of any abbreviation that is only a "c".  The rest is definitely an address.

And there's the best part.....it's possible he may still be alive!!  I did a quick search of the Swiss phone directory:
Krebs, Rudolf und Heidi (-Stettler)
Bernstrasse 20
3067 Boll/BE
Phone+41 31 839 17 91

If you know someone who speaks German it's very much worth it to write a letter and include pics.  You might get a response.

Might be pretty cool to do. Unfortunately I don't know anyone that speaks German. Is there a computer program
for translation?

Used to be a forum somewhere that had generic letters to send.  Also used to be a few Swiss around on here too, Shung I think is his name, comes to mind.

I wrote to both of the guys on my tags, got letters back from both.  One guy I emailed for a while.
