Hey fellas, I bought a LMT 14.5 M4 upper a few months back.. It is not SBR'd yet and have been storing it locked up way far away from my other AR's. The goal has been to SBR it to replace the CMMG 16" M4 upper on my go to carbine, but lately I have been wondering... why all that trouble for just roughly an inch and a half? By the time it is all said and done that is going to be a $700 1.5" I know it would be a little more well balanced, handier, true M4 profile etc.. But the 16' isn't that bad!! Yall think it would make more sense to sell off the 14.5 and live with the 16"? Or if I was going to go through the trouble and $$$ to SBR my carbine then pick up a 10.5 upper?

Thanks,

P

if you're gonna go short, then go short. I don't personally see the point of spending $200 for a 14.5" when I can get one with a permanent FH for less. Or stick with 16"

otherwise, if it were me, and Michigan allowed for SBR, I'd have a 7.5" or 10.5" upper.

Why not just perm attach a flash hider so the OAL of the barrel is 16"?

Can ADCO pin the standard A2 that is on it now? I measured roughly 16" 1/4 from the start of the feed ramps to the end of the FH with standard A2

Not enough. Measurement is from bolt face with chamber closed. Several mfgs make special "long A2" FS to make a 14.5"  up to a legal 16" when perm. attached.

+1

I also don't think it's worth it for such a small reduction in barrel length.  I've got an 11.5" upper, and thinking of a 7.5" upper.

That measurement method will get you in trouble.

I took a 14.5" barrel, cut off 3/8" to rethread the muzzle, and permanetly attached a YHM phantom QD flash hider, 16.125".... Love the combo, but nose heavy with the can on the front.

'nuff said.

Thanks everyone! How about this... It is going to be tough getting my $ back out of the LMT 14.5 upper seeing that they have been in stock for a while on BCUSA. I was thinking of sending the 14.5 to ADCO for a pinned extended A2 FH .. and if I really wanted to go the SBR route, I could sent my CMMG 16" upper as well for a cut down to 10.5 or 11.5? What do yall think? Or post the LMT 14.5 on EE WTT for a 10.5 or 11.5?

Thanks,

P

I used a Phantom II on y 14.5" perm attached. It's inexpensive, looks good and works good. I would not SBR for a 14.5"
