I just picked up a NIB Colt CZ40. I remember reading an article about the gun a few years ago and stating that only a few hundred were ever made. This is the first one I've ever seen. What is it worth and will CZ40 mags work in it?

I would think CZ 40 mags would work, after all, it looks to me like it's a CZ 40 with Colt on the slide instead of CZ...Could'nt tell you if it'll gain in value as a collector peice or not,it is a oddity,Maybe go over to the CZ board, www.czforum.com and ask around over there, those guys will know...

Was it really manufactured by Colt of just stamped their name on it (ala Springfield XD style)?
Link Posted: 11/29/2002 4:53:54 PM EST
It says made in Hartford CT on the slide.

Yeah, I thought about it afterwards and if you read an article where they actually said that they made a few hundred, then I guess that's exactly what they did. Nice looking pistola.

If only a couple 100 were made then it would make sense that they will be worth some $$$. A nice looking handgun. Have fun!

Sweet! I have a CZ, CZ-40 and it is an excellent pistol. I most I have seen the Colts advertised for is $1,200. As far as I know, the CZ mags will work.

Sweet. Mind if I ask where you got it and how long the "dealer/seller" had it?

That's one pistol that I don't think I'd be shooting if I owned it.... if there are only a few hundred out there...

Colt CZ40 was introduced in 1998 and was built for Colt by CZ in the Czech Republic. (No longer in production.)

NIB price should be around $750.00.

Kal, I bought it at a gun show.

FWIW, Colt collectors are the pickiest sort, so if you want it to keep its value, keep it NIB. Figure the first round will cost you about $250 in value.

I learned this the hard way with Colt Custom Shop .45s; it's even worse with Colt SAAs.

OTOH, if you don't care about resale value, blast away! Guns are made to be shot, not looked at and admired.

Tony, I bought it strictly to trade up or sell, so I won't be shooting it anytime soon!

Is this the one you have for sale over in the EE?
Link Posted: 11/30/2002 5:56:43 PM EST
BTW, that is truly cool! If I had any disposable income I'd be interested, but I'm going broke keeping the M16 fed w/SA battlepacks, LOL!

If no one here jumps on it, ya really might want to post it over at gunsamerica for a ridiculously high price .... I've had good luck with selling collectible stuff there.

Nice catch.

It's the same one over on the EE board. I hope to trade it on something. If you're interested its listed on the EE board under pistols.

Colt is notorius for putting out "limited" or "custom" stuff. This will fall into that catagory.

That might be true, but of those custom guns how many articles were written on them. I can think of about three gun magazines that had full features about these guns (Guns & Ammo, American Handgunner and another one that I can't think of at the moment This gun wouldn't be classified as either a limited or custom gun because its a not either. The way I heard it was Colt had full intention of putting this gun into full production, but something went wrong and they stopped production. This makes this gun a great deal more rarer than a limited # or custom gun IMO. I can think of about three gun magazines that had full features about these guns (Guns & Ammo, American Handgunner and another one that I can't think of at the moment. Wholesale price on the gun was around $475 if my memory serves me correct. Was the gun new or used for $400?
